The Ravynne sisters head to New England to rescue yet another family member. This time it’s their Great-Aunt Margaret who Meg fears might be a werewolf for reasons Charlie thinks are quite idiotic. Arriving at the enormous mansion hunkered on the cliff’s edge above the restless sea like a malevolent gargoyle, they find themselves deeply embroiled in the evil that permeates the very walls of Ravenscliffe where one of the most frightening entities they have ever encountered wants one of the Ravynne sisters dead…dead and gone so her spirit will not linger to haunt where she is unwelcome. But the very beguiling owner wants something else entirely and will do whatever it takes to achieve his end even if it costs one of the Ravynne sisters her life.

Beguiled A Ravynne Sisters Paranormal Thriller Book 8 eBook Merabeth James

I had hope for this series. It started out well and I liked the main characters at first. But geesh, after 8 of these stories the only thing I can say is I can't take it anymore. I didn't want to give the one or two stars it deserves and just rated the series overall. If you decide to read this series, just know that it is the same story in almost every book with the names and locations changed. The first book is OK if you can get past the fact that the author ends every sentence in an exclamation point, the second book begins sentences with a period and her overuse of the word "wry" in the stories will have you cringing after awhile. The author's TV scriptwriting shows in these books. She keeps writing short similar stories like she is typing up next weeks episode of a bad creature feature.

You have the one supermodel, ex-ninja type sister (Charlie) that seems to have recently retired from some government agency that (wink, wink) doesn't really exist. She saves her sister and her dog from an abusive husband. Then they win a really old mansion with ghosts and an evil entity. They spend a lot of someone else's money restoring it so they can have a Bed and Breakfast. They get rid of the evil entity, keep the ghosts to attract visitors and then suddenly they are never home to run the place because they have to go save family members who get themselves in trouble. These family members are always being held hostage, in a large old castle or mansion that seems to be larger on the inside than the outside like a tent in a Harry Potter book and Meg's poor dog probably doesn't even remember her. At the end of one book, they get back from one place, pick up the dog from the housekeeper and are driving home when they get a call from another sister in trouble, turn around go back to the housekeeper, drop the dog off and go to the airport.

All of the castles/mansions have been semi-renovated and have tunnels underneath, secret passages in the walls and lots of rooms and wings to explore and (of course) ghosts and an evil entity. They are always owned by some drop dead gorgeous man with secrets. Most of them being that he is a rapist/murderer/supernatural being and they all seem to be located on some crag overlooking the sea. Even though neither woman seems to have an income, they are able to fly all over the world and rent cars. Luckily for them though, they are always invited to stay in these evil places while they also become hostages, but are still able to explore and solve their mystery, slay the dragon and release all those ghosts to the promised land in a Vegas style fireworks type display.

When the short, chubby sister Meg isn't whining, peeing or eating enough carbs to give a horse a heart attack and Charlie isn't glaring at everyone and making threats, they explore the tunnels and secret passages and try to recruit ghosts (with a séance) to help them, in return for tickets to ride the light tunnel to said promised land. In between they seem to either be trying to get sex, having sex dreams or trying to keep from getting sex for one reason or another. I seriously think that the author has a secret wish to find out what it is like to be held hostage and used as a sex slave because that is what I get from these books. So if that is also your fantasy and like reading descriptions of erections, then this series is for you.

I just finished this book, "Beguiled", the 8th in the series and it took me forever to get through it. The only good part of it was the ending. She could have done so much more with this tale to go with the ending, but instead just did the same old tired story. And if you go to the description of the next book, you'll see that it takes place in (you guessed it) more salt scented wind, gulls circling overhead and an ancient, haunted manor with restless dead. Which means another dark mess of a sort of livable place overlooking the sea with tunnels and secret passages and a great looking but deadly dangerous guy that will barely be able to conceal his erections as he devises ways to bed one or the other before he tries to kill them, but fails miserably because he will be outwitted by Spy Woman and Donut Girl.

Beguiled A Ravynne Sisters Paranormal Thriller Book 8 eBook Merabeth James Reviews

I read the first book in this series, I couldn't put it down. I just finished the last and it was all I expected.Great read. I'M sure you like them too.
I started reading Merabeth James with Old Manor house for Sale, which to date is still my favorite of her books, this installment of the Ravynne sisters was hard for me to get into as the characters felt stale and predictable. The one good thing in this book was after not hearing much of the so called love interest of Charlie the author finally put the nail in the coffin of the supposed romance. Heres hoping she does something more interesting and fresh with her future stories.
This book is like all your books in this series, fantastic, can't put it down. The Ravynne Sisters Paranormal Thriller is the best Series I have Read!!! You are a the best and I look forward to more of their adventures. I read all five books this summer where I left. from your last book. Who ever reads this series you will get hooked and I know you'll love this series, that's a sure bet!!!!!!
I have read the entire Ravynne Sisters series and they are quite captivating. Quite a few typos and formatting issues (which is why this is a 4 star review instead of a 5 star) but they are easy to overlook for the most part. Ms James has a definite feel for the paranormal and her series is quite good.
I have read every book written regarding the "Ravynne Sisters", and I have enjoyed every one of them. The plots are, of course, fanciful and at times funny. The sisters interaction with each other is much as my sister's with me.
While I enjoy the Ravyne sisters book 8, Beguiled, is not the strongest of the series. Marabeth creates a dark and moody atmosphere. However, the usual heart racing drama is absent. There is a climatic ending. It is the plot line that dampens the ending trauma. Our bad guy is tortured, not twisted. I was left with a bit of sympathy for the emotionally disturbed "evil-doer".
Merabeth James has scored another 5-star rating for her latest paranormal adventure "Beguiled." Meg and Charlie take on a new diabolical force along with a new spooky cast of players including a witch and a creepy great-aunt (which I can relate to). Add to that a sinister seaside mansion as a backdrop for a compelling Ravynne romp with fantastic twists and turns. What fun!! I hunger for more.
