When mortal enemies Veronica Lopez and Heather Simms get hit by a bar code scanner while fighting over the last copy of Queen of Twilight, it takes them a moment to realize that they aren’t in a New Jersey bookstore anymore. In fact, they’re in the novel. Too bad they don’t realize it until after they accidentally kill the book’s heroine, Princess Arabelle, aka "The One." Only The One can restore light and peace to the land of Galma, long held in thrall to the evil Twilight Queen. Now Vero and Heather have no choice but to try to save Galma from the Twilight Queen. But can the two girls find their way to the end of the story and home again without destroying Galma—or killing each other?

Well I pretty much read this for the nostalgia. I read it years ago when I was little and I absolutely loved it then. My enthusiasm for the story dimmed somewhat over the years, but it's still a fun read.

The Wizard the Witch and Two Girls From Jersey edition by Lisa Papademetriou Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

This is an incredible story for everyone to read--you don't have to be fantasy-savvy to love this book! As a fantasy lover, I adore the small references here and there, but totally not necessary (and it's a lot of pop culture either way). Read this book for friendship, adventure, and a lot of heart!
Popular Heather and bookworm Veronica reach for the last copy of Queen of Twilight at the same time, both needing it for English class. Veronica has read and enjoyed the book before, while Heather only wants it for the sake of the assignment. When the bookstore cashier accidentally zaps the girls with the barcode scanner, the two teens end up inside of the story. As the book comes to life around them, they will have to use their wits and wittiness to stay one page ahead of the bad guys, and they must learn to work together in order find a way back home. A cute story-within-a-story that references and spoofs famous fantasies, The Wizard, the Witch, and Two Girls from Jersey is best read with tongue firmly planted in cheek.
I read this book with my daughter when she was in 5th grade; I highly recommend as a parent with kid read. I absolutely loved it, as did my daughter. We still talk about it now and again and she's now in college. It's a very easy way for people to get a LOTR like feel but with an easier read (which was crucial for my kids in 5th grade). It's funny and charming and I can't tell you how many times we giggled as we read through it. Such a cherished memory with my daughter.
Any fantasy fan should pick up THE WIZARD, THE WITCH AND TWO GIRLS FROM JERSEY by Lisa Papademetriou. This parody of the genre will amuse anyone who loves fantasy, and those who have read classic fantasy novels will recognize the parodies.

Veronica Lopez and Heather Simms are two entirely different sophomores. Veronica is the smart bookworm who loves fantasy, and Heather is your stereotypical popular girl. Then they get sucked into Galma, the world of "Queen of Twilight" which happens to be Veronica's favorite book, and Heather is mistaken as the heroine. So begins a hilarious adventure that combines elements from many fantasies in an amusing and creative way.

This book is not the most well written, but it's a quick and easy read, and the characters, though stereotypical, are still three dimensional, and the dialogue is realistic. What makes this book so great, however, is the fact that it is a parody, including mocking THE LORD OF THE RINGS, my favorite book. (I love what I take to be the mockery of all the Tolkien's songs.)

Give this book to any girl who loves fantasy. Chances are they'll enjoy this derivative yet creative tale as well as the friendship that develops between to Veronica and Heather.
As a mother who screens everything her 13-year-old daughter reads, one of my biggest frustrations is how said daughter tends to judge all the books she picks out from the library by their covers. So it was a bit of a surprise for me when I saw that she had picked out "The Wizard, the Witch and Two Girls from Jersey" - because the cover art, as emphasized in said daughter's review below, is not really terribly attractive. Apparently, that was what she realized as well, once we got home. Good thing, then, I got past that awful cover after it sat for weeks without being touched and decided to share my enthusiasm for the book! Good thing, too, it wasn't the version we first stumbled across - *that* cover is even less appealing!

Readers who enjoyed William Goldman's classic "The Princess Bride S. Morgenstern's Classic Tale of True Love and High Adventure" (another yucky cover) and Polly Shulman's "The Grimm Legacy", and looking to move up from the "Inkheart" trilogy by Cornelia Funke would love "The Wizard, the Witch and Two Girls from Jersey." I only know Lisa Papademetriou from her contributions to the "Disney Fairies" series, but I enjoyed her sense of humour enough that I will probably be on the lookout for more of her books. There is just a couple of instances of mild language ("Oh my God" spelt in various ways, "crap", and "hell") that I felt was not necessary and which could have been replaced with other words - but I was too busy laughing through the book to be too much offended! (We are no angels at home, in any case.) Said daughter's review follows

"'The Wizard, the Witch and Two Girls from Jersey' by Lisa Papademetriou was a hilarious, romantic, magical, adventurous read.

"What would *you* do if you got sucked into one of your favorite books with your enemy?

"All Veronica Lopez wanted was to get some quotes to finish her book report. How was *she* to know that Heather Simms, all-round American drama queen, needed the book as well? And that the book, 'The Queen of Twilight', was the last copy in the store?

"All Heather wanted was to not get into trouble with her English teacher. So all she had to do was grab the book ('Twilight Princess'?), put some quotes in, and, voila! - well, at least she won't fail. But then that book-girl, Veronica, took the last copy of the book.

"Well, a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do. ... But in the middle of their mini slap-fight, Veronica and Heather somehow got transported into 'The Queen of Twilight' - and Heather just accidentally killed the heroine of the book, a.k.a. the-only-person-who-could-have-gotten-them-outta-this-mess.

"So now Heather is the new heroine of the book, and the book doesn't like that at all.

"Eventually, it's up to a fake heroine, a pet dragon, a smelly monster, a snarky tall dwarf called Veronica, a wizard with no magical, a talking squirrel and an elf bakery-reject to save all of Galma from giant spiders, three witches, trolls and a world with no light.

"Galma is dead meat.

"I thought that the book was awesome!!! -) I *loved* the references to "Harry Potter", "The Lord of the Rings", "Narnia" and all the other classic books, and the book was *sooo* funny! -) The only thing I didn't like was the cover - sad to say, the cover was what put me off the book, and I didn't read it for *weeks*. I now totally regret that decision. I also have no allowance at all now, because I spent it all on my very own copy of the book.

"I would give the book five stars two stars for the plot, two stars for the characters, and one star for the fantastic, brilliant, genius writing!"
I had really high hopes for this book after reading a few reviews. Once I finished I was actually ver disappointed. I think the book could have been so much more than it was. There was so much potential and I think it just fell flat.
This book has a surprisingly unique and original story. You never know what is going to happen around each corner, but at the same time it is full of humor and it is fun yo watch the characters develop in this new way that keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout the entire novel.
Well I pretty much read this for the nostalgia. I read it years ago when I was little and I absolutely loved it then. My enthusiasm for the story dimmed somewhat over the years, but it's still a fun read.
